Australian Professional Standards for Teachers

The Australian Professional Standards for Teachers define the work of teachers and make explicit the elements of high-quality, effective teaching in 21st-century schools. The Standards provide a framework that makes clear the knowledge, practice, and professional engagement required across teachers’ careers.
There are seven Standards, which teachers will meet at differing levels depending on their career stage and level of experience. The seven Standards fall into three teaching domains: professional knowledge, professional practice, and professional engagement.
Individuals need to evidence certain requirements of the Standards in order to become a registered teacher, achieve full registration or Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher certification.
